Candidate Spotlight: Gary DeRemer (Ward 6— Cuyahoga Falls City Council)

Meet Gary, candidate for Ward 6 City Council in Cuyahoga Falls. Here’s a little about them:
My name is Gary DeRemer. I have lived in Cuyahoga Falls for 51 years. My fiancé and I live in Ward 6 with my son and her son — both named Kyle David. How funny is that? We have two dogs, Angel and Rocky. I have served on the committees for The CF Jaycees ( The original Rockin on the river) CF Little league North (also coached), CMRA Board, CRA housing council, CF Neighborhood Ambassador, and currently The Oktoberfest. I was past Ward 6 Councilman.

What motivated you to enter public service?
My passion is community. For the past 30 years, I have worked with many community driven non-profits. I want to bring that experience to the City Council.
What issues are most important to you and our community?
A voice for everyone. We have a lot of diversity in the city and we need to welcome this change by acknowledging different views and perspectives.
Another issue is the maintenance and repair of our streets. We need to keep up the great work that is being managed by a continued increase in the budget each year.
Teens need a safe place to go, I would like to see some sort of community center or environment dedicated to teens.
Tell us why Cuyahoga Falls is home to you.
The city has so much to offer, from the new downtown to the many parks. We are right next to the National Park and Blossom is in our backyard.
The Friday night events and the big festivals are fun also.
Where’s your favorite place to eat in Cuyahoga Falls?
How do you pick one place? For dinner I would have to go with On-Tap, breakfast would be Molly Browns, and finish the day with Strickland's.
Where would you like to see Cuyahoga Falls in 10 years?
Cuyahoga Falls in the future, I would like us to continue the great progress that is going on currently. There is always room for improvement. I would like to see more development on Bailey Rd and State Rd.
Why are you proud to be a Democrat?
I was a union worker for 22 years and was protected by their policies. I feel the democrats tend to help the middle class and the working class. I feel everyone should have a voice.
What do you do to unwind at the end of the day?
To end my day, my fiancé and I enjoy grilling dinner or ordering in from our local restaurants depending on our schedules. Followed by watching our favorite shows as our dogs entertain us.
Favorite song & why?
Favorite song is anything from Motley Crue. When I was a kid, my friend brought down a Cassette from Motley Crue and I listened to it every night for six months before she made me give it back.
